Nachts in der Provinz (2026): Cast, Story and Release Details

Prepared by Movies Dock Editorial

Nachts in der Provinz follows two separate but quietly connected departures in rural Austria: a sausage-stand owner searching for a runaway horse and a young woman preparing to leave her village. Their night unfolds through old relationships, local stories and a ghostly encounter.

Nachts in der Provinz is a 2026 Austrian drama written and directed by David Lapuch. Set in a village environment, the film brings together two stories shaped by change, uncertainty and the difficulty of leaving familiar places behind.

One storyline begins with a runaway horse and an unexpected search, while another follows Anna during her final shift as a pizza delivery driver. As night falls, both narratives move beyond ordinary routines and into more unusual territory.

Story without spoilers

Richard operates a sausage stand at the local sports ground, where his daily life follows a familiar pattern. That routine changes when a young woman arrives looking for her runaway horse. The two begin searching for it together, setting off into a night that takes Richard away from the world he knows.

Elsewhere, Anna is preparing to leave her home village permanently after completing one last shift delivering pizzas. Her plans are complicated by old relationships, village stories and a ghostly encounter, prompting her to reconsider whether departure can ever be as simple as making the decision to go.

What to expect
