Story: A 72-hour whirlwind in the life of bohemian artist Amedeo Modigliani, known as Modi to his friends, follows a chaotic series of events through the streets of war torn Paris in 1916. On the run from the police, his desire to end his career and leave the city is dismissed by fellow artists Maurice Utrillo, Chaim Soutine and Modi’s muse, Beatrice Hastings. Editor’s note: Our short take on Modi, Three Days on the Wing of Madness (2024): Firmly a Drama, History piece, but with a personal touch. With Johnny Depp at the helm, the film feels purposeful and well-paced. Riccardo Scamarcio, Antonia Desplat, Al Pacino anchor the film with grounded, unshowy work. The 1h 48m runtime suits the material; scenes land without dragging. Not universally praised, but there’s enough here for curious genre fans. Worth a watch for the craft alone, even beyond the genre appeal.
