Story without spoilers

Cornelia’s husband, Werner, decides that she needs to lose weight, turning her body into the defining issue within their household. As this pressure shapes daily family life, Cornelia suffers and their daughter Ela is placed between her parents.

The small-village setting and 1980s period frame a story about how one person’s judgment can affect an entire family. The supplied synopsis focuses on the impact of Werner’s decision rather than revealing how the family’s situation develops.

What to expect

Viewers can expect a character-focused family drama dealing with weight, control and the consequences of social and domestic pressure. The film’s female-empowerment theme is connected to Cornelia’s experience, while Ela’s position gives the story a child’s perspective on the conflict.

Its German-language setting, 1980s timeframe and source material based on a book provide the broader context. The premise suggests an intimate examination of family relationships rather than an action-driven narrative.
