Prepared by Movies Dock Editorial

L'enquête de mon coeur follows filmmaker Philippe Vallois after he discovers that evidence points to a passionate romance he cannot remember. With Bruno back in Brazil, Vallois reconstructs the missing months through camera footage, a personal journal and conversations with close friends in this French autofiction film.

L'enquête de mon coeur is a 2026 French autofiction film written and directed by Philippe Vallois. Its premise centers on a filmmaker confronting a deeply personal mystery: the apparent romance he shared with Bruno during a period erased from his memory.

Rather than presenting the relationship as a conventional flashback-driven story, the film follows Vallois as he investigates the evidence left behind. Video recordings, journal entries and testimony from people close to him become the tools he uses to reconstruct what happened while Bruno is already back in Brazil.

Story without spoilers

Philippe Vallois wakes to an unsettling gap in his recent past. Evidence and witnesses indicate that he spent the winter in an intense relationship with Bruno, a young Brazilian man, yet Vallois has no memory of the preceding three months.

Determined to understand his own missing story, Vallois begins a personal investigation. He examines material recorded by his camera, consults his journal and draws on the recollections of close friends. The film combines documentary and fictional elements as he attempts to piece together—and virtually revisit—the romance he cannot consciously recall.

What to expect

The film is framed as an autofiction that blends documentary and fiction rather than as a straightforward fictional romance. Its central structure is investigative: the protagonist searches through personal records and other people’s memories to approach an experience that remains inaccessible to him.

Viewers can expect a 93-minute French-language film built around questions of memory, evidence and reconstruction, with the romance at its center explored indirectly through footage, writing and testimony. The supplied premise does not indicate whether Vallois ultimately resolves every part of the mystery.
