Editor’s note: Case Closed: The Million-Dollar Pentagram (2024) in a nutshell: A confident blend of Animation, Crime, Mystery, Action, focused more on tone than spectacle. Chika Nagaoka keeps the storytelling tight, favoring character beats over empty flash. Minami Takayama, Wakana Yamazaki, Rikiya Koyama anchor the film with grounded, unshowy work. At 1h 50m, it moves with a measured pace and rarely overstays a scene. Reception is decent overall; not a game-changer, but hardly disposable. Its tagline — “Missing samurai swords, an unsolved mystery from the Great Edo period, the battle for treasure begins…” — actually reflects the film’s intent. Worth a watch for the craft alone, even beyond the genre appeal.
