Story without spoilers

The film follows a financially struggling gig worker who moonlights as an operative for a company intent on monitoring remote staff. His assignment is to identify workers accused of productivity crimes across London, placing him inside a system built around observation, suspicion and employment pressure.

The supplied premise leaves the exact consequences unstated, keeping the focus on the moral choice at the heart of the story.

What to expect

Phantom Carousel is positioned as a compact blend of comedy and drama, with satire, surveillance and corporate-thriller elements shaping its premise. Its short 19-minute runtime suggests a tightly focused story rather than an expansive workplace narrative.

The film’s setting and setup point toward an examination of remote-work monitoring, insecure employment and the tension between following instructions and maintaining personal boundaries. Those ideas are presented through the unusual perspective of an employee whose livelihood depends on policing other workers.
