Editor’s Insights: The 2023 film Smugglers deftly navigates its Crime and Action themes, steering clear of clichés. Director Ryoo Seung-wan expertly crafts a focused narrative that emphasizes character development over hollow spectacle. The standout performances, particularly from Kim Hye-soo, Yum Jung-ah, and Zo In-sung, inject emotional depth into the story. With a runtime of 2 hours and 9 minutes, the pacing is deliberate but never feels draggy. While not without its imperfections, the film’s strengths far surpass its minor flaws. Its tagline, “Unload. Procure. Deceive,” perfectly encapsulates its core themes. If the premise intrigues you, it’s definitely worth adding to your watchlist.
