Editor’s Insight: Case Closed: The Million-Dollar Pentagram (2024) encapsulates the essence of Animation, Crime, Mystery, and Action without feeling repetitive. Director Chika Nagaoka expertly maintains a tight narrative, prioritizing character development over unnecessary spectacle. Standout performances, particularly from Minami Takayama, Wakana Yamazaki, and Rikiya Koyama, lend the storyline emotional depth. The runtime of 1 hour and 50 minutes feels just right for the content. While there are minor imperfections, the film’s strengths significantly outweigh any shortcomings. Its tagline—“Missing samurai swords, an unsolved mystery from the Great Edo period, the battle for treasure begins…” perfectly reflects its essence. If the concept intrigues you, be sure to add it to your watchlist.
