Jay hosts Harry, Anthony, Ian and Pete at his spectacular mansion on Christmas Eve. The occasion is intended to honor Bryan, a former classmate who has died, with the group sharing a Chinese takeaway together.

To shape the evening in a particular way, Jay hires Cindy Williams to pose as his girlfriend. Cindy, however, arrives with a hidden agenda that Jay has not anticipated. The film’s premise places the characters in a confined social situation where personal secrets and the memory of Bryan become important parts of the evening.

What to expect

As a comedy-drama, Chinese Whispers combines a social gathering with more serious material surrounding loss and unresolved secrets. The setup suggests an ensemble story driven by conversations, shifting appearances and the tension between what the characters present publicly and what they may be keeping private.

The Christmas Eve setting and the memorial occasion provide a distinct backdrop, while Cindy’s undisclosed purpose gives the story its central source of uncertainty. The runtime is 1 hour and 35 minutes, allowing the film to focus on this single gathering and its group dynamic.
