The Tasters

🎬 Title: The Tasters / Le assaggiatrici

Every meal could be their last.

Story: The film follows in the wake of young Rosa who flees bomb-stricken Berlin in the autumn of 1943 and heads to a small, isolated village near the eastern border. This is where her in-laws live and where her husband, who’s deployed on the front, has advised she take shelter until the war ends and he returns. Rosa soon discovers that this seemingly sleepy village conceals a secret: in the forest bordering the hamlet is Hitler’s headquarters, the Wolf’s Lair.

Editor’s note: Here’s a quick take on The Tasters (2025): A confident blend of Drama, History, focused more on tone than spectacle. Under Silvio Soldini’s direction, the film keeps a steady rhythm and a clear sense of place. Elisa Schlott, Max Riemelt, Alma Hasun anchor the film with grounded, unshowy work. At 2h 3m, it moves with a measured pace and rarely overstays a scene. A respectable mid-tier entry with a couple of memorable beats. Its tagline — “Every meal could be their last.” — actually reflects the film’s intent. Worth a watch for the craft alone, even beyond the genre appeal.
