Prepared by Movies Dock Editorial

Wonder Beast is a Russian family fantasy about Resentment, the daughter of two powerful magicians, who loses her inherited magic on her coming-of-age day. To regain it, she travels to the human world with the shape-shifting Chudo Yudo and faces an unusual wedding quest.

Wonder Beast is a 2026 Russian family fantasy built around a fairy-tale problem with complicated consequences. Resentment, the daughter of two powerful magicians, reaches adulthood without receiving the magical ability she was meant to inherit.

Her solution leads away from the enchanted world and into the human one, where she must find a groom and complete a troubling magical ritual. Accompanying her is Chudo Yudo, a mysterious companion who can take the form of birds, animals and even a handsome prince.

Story without spoilers

In the fairy-tale world of Wonder Beast, the breakup of a marriage can leave behind the same resentment and complications found in ordinary families. Resentment is the daughter of Bolotnitsa and Chernogor, two influential magicians who have divorced but still share power over her.

On the day she comes of age, Resentment discovers that the magic expected to pass from her parents has not appeared. She is told that she must enter the human world, find a groom, marry him and sacrifice him by transforming him into a tree. Her journey is shared by Chudo Yudo, a mysterious being whose ability to change shape gives him several possible identities along the way.

What to expect

The film combines family fantasy with a fairy-tale quest, magical transformations and a premise centered on love, marriage and inherited power. Its story moves between an enchanted setting and the human world, while Chudo Yudo’s shape-shifting creates room for several different forms, including a bird, an animal and a prince.

The central conflict also gives the film a darker fairy-tale element: Resentment’s goal involves a sacrifice rather than a simple romantic resolution. The supplied tagline, “The Only Real Magic Is True Love,” points to love as an important idea within the story, though the available information does not establish how that idea unfolds.
