Noli me tangere is a 2026 film directed by Ghassan Salhab. Its starting point is an intimate one: a personal history unsettled by the larger course of events in Lebanon.

The film draws on verses by Egyptian poet Ahmed Fouad Negm, written in the early 1970s and sung here by a woman facing away from the horizon. That image and the film’s premise suggest a work concerned with disorientation, memory and an uncertain future.

Story without spoilers

The film opens at a moment when the very idea of tomorrow suddenly loses its meaning. From there, Noli me tangere follows a journey in which an individual’s personal history is disrupted by the historical course of Lebanon.

Its poetic framework comes from lines by Ahmed Fouad Negm about darkness, vanished sight, lost paths and the eyes of words as a possible guide. Those verses are sung by a woman standing with her back to the horizon, giving the film an evocative starting point without revealing how its journey unfolds.

What to expect

Based on its synopsis, Noli me tangere is a reflective film built around poetic imagery and the intersection of private history with Lebanon’s history. The premise points toward an atmosphere of uncertainty and disorientation rather than a conventional plot-driven setup.

The reference to Negm’s poetry also indicates that words, memory and the search for direction are central to the film’s framing. With a runtime of 1 hour and 12 minutes, it presents this premise in a compact format.
