Story: On the day of his wedding to Hélène, the daughter of a rough provincial nurseryman, Fadinard finds his horse munching on the straw hat of Anaïs Beauperthuis, a young aristocrat caught up in a liaison with her military lover in the woods of Vincennes. To prevent embarrassment for Anaïs, who cannot return home without the hat gifted by her jealous husband, Fadinard embarks on a madcap adventure to find an identical one. To keep his future father-in-law from suspecting anything, who is arriving with the wedding party, he drags Anaïs along on this wild search.
