Editor’s Note: Shutter (2025) encapsulates a compelling mix of horror, mystery, and thriller, prioritizing atmosphere over flash. Director Herwin Novianto maintains a focused narrative that emphasizes character development rather than superficial effects. The performances—especially those of Vino G. Bastian, Anya Geraldine, and Niken Anjani—bring emotional depth to the storyline. At a runtime of 1 hour and 29 minutes, the film flows smoothly and seldom lingers unnecessarily. While it does have some imperfections, its merits clearly outweigh the flaws. The film’s tagline, “Safe Space For All,” aptly summarizes its thematic intent.
