Editor’s note: Here’s a quick take on Abigail (2024): Firmly a Horror, Thriller, Crime, Action, Comedy piece, but with a personal touch. Under Tyler Gillett’s direction, the film keeps a steady rhythm and a clear sense of place. Performances (especially Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Alisha Weir) give the story human stakes. At 1h 49m, it moves with a measured pace and rarely overstays a scene. Solid if imperfect—its strengths outweigh a few rough edges. Its tagline—“Children can be such monsters.”—is a fair snapshot of its intent. If the premise speaks to you, put it on your list.
